CalFresh benefits can help buy nutritious foods for a better diet. CalFresh benefits stretch food budgets, allowing individuals and families to afford nutritious food, including more fruit, vegetables and other healthy foods. The amount of benefits a household receives is dependent on household size countable income, and monthly expenses, such as housing and utilities. The program issues monthly benefits on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. Food may be purchased at any grocery store or farmers market that accepts EBT cards.

Who is eligible for CalFresh?

• Individuals and families including U.S. citizens, legal residents, and noncitizens with certain immigration statuses may be eligible for CalFresh.
• Getting food benefits doesn’t affect you or your family’s immigration status. Immigration information is private and confidential.
• People 60+ and disabled may have a higher income and still qualify.

To apply for CFAP benefits, please visit CalFreshFood.org or contact your county office. CFAP and CalFresh use the same application. When you apply for CalFresh, the county will figure out if you are eligible for either CalFresh or CFAP.

The California Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program is a food and nutrition program for growing families. The program provides nutrition education, breastfeeding and chestfeeding support, benefits to buy healthy foods, and referrals to health care and other community services.

WIC services include:

• Nutrition experts who specialize in nutrition for mothers and their children.
• Support and information about breastfeeding your baby, including access to breastfeeding and chestfeeding experts.
• Help in finding health care and other valuable community services.
• Benefits to buy healthy foods - such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, milk, eggs, bread, cereal, juice, peanut butter, soy milk, tofu and more!

You may qualify for California WIC if you:

• Are pregnant, breastfeeding or chestfeeding, just had a baby (or recent pregnancy loss) in the last six months; or
• Have a child or care for a child under age 5; and
• Have low-to-medium income or receive Medi-Cal, CalWORKs (TANF), or CalFresh (SNAP) benefits; and
• Live in California.
